Worcester parkrun, Event number 84, 26th January 2013
With everyone eager to parkrun this week after last weeks cancellation, it was an odd to be praising the sound of rain lashing down on the flat roof on Friday night. The morning of the run and we were treated to some lovely winter sunshine. We shifted and adjusted the course to miss the remainder of the ice and apart from the exit to the paddock we were good to go. Thanks to Richard Cowley for his help smashing through this ice with his boot and my trusty spade shoveling a route through.
I do have some news about the pre-race signs team, Mr Broom unfortunately left his head on the course after meeting with a particularly big patch of ice, he is in intensive care, and the signs are good for a full recovery. We are hoping that with a dip into our small donations fund we can patch him up, his best buddy Mr Bucket is looking after him.
Whilst Richard and I were smashing the ice Maddie was atop the table giving everyone a thorough safety briefing, thanks for taking notice and taking care. As well as this we had lots of people picking up their 50 shirts so congratulations to you all. A few juniors are waiting for t-shirts, because of the big demand for J10 shirts we have run out of a lot of sizes, soon as they come in we'll let you know.
We got the run off and everyone came pilling through the paddock and thankfully everyone still upright and with smiles on their face, and took heed of our warnings and headed into the woods and the clear paths. We had one slip, Vonnie (my wife) who has a big bruise on her ermmmm upper thigh, but is fine. After the first lap their were some close groups and Peter Brooks was out front, down from Brueton parkrun which had to cancel this week. He kept the lead finishing first. Ian Radford whom we've not seen since July came home 2nd, and Mathew Fitzgerald of Black Pear Joggers in 3rd. Wendy Holmes a cani cross (with dog) runner were first in the female category just missing out on a sub 20 with a 20:02. A great debut from first timer Emilly Morrall gave her a 2nd finisher and Sarah Kellett was in 3rd with a new PB to her name, congratulations.
We had 14 PB's on Saturday, Zach Butcher standing out, completing his 14th run and bagging a PB. Congratulations Zach and all the PB baggers!.
