It was a week of comebacks at parkrun this week and like a scene from Reservoir Dogs it was great to see Elaine (rego Czaress), Paul Marston, Derek (Master Timer), Anne (finish straight), Eddie and Annie Robson (parkrun tourist), all coming along the path to the café for a week with Worcester parkrun, we missed you all!
Thanks to all our volunteers this week whether this was a one-off. It makes such a difference to have a little cheers along the way and to help manage jobs that need doing. It was a massive turn out 21 volunteers awesome!!!! Big hand for Anne RALPHS • Carole RUDOLF • David GRAY • David HOSKING • Derek HOBBY • Ed FREEMANTLE • Elaine MARSTON • Julie HADLEY • Kevin O'MALLEY • Margaret WILKES • Mark WALLIS • Michael CONNOR • Rhys JONES • Richard BEETLESTONE • Richard COWLEY • Richard RALPHS • Sally GUILLAUME • Simon GALLAGHER • Vicky MASON • Wendy Bonita COLE • Yvonne RALPHS
In the coming weeks there'll be an automatic opt in for the volunteer roster email, so everyone will get the list of roles available.
There was a cracking atmosphere before the run as we announced the parkrunner of the month Alison Carr who with her daughter Tess make it the first family double to win the Sweatshop trainer prize. Its always very well deserved and especially so for Alison. She is a talented local runner, has a 21:29 PB (75.24% age grading – that’s very good), has done 58 parkruns 57 of which are at Worcester, we love that loyalty!!
If you don’t follow us on facebook you’ll have missed the Wales v England, Red v White T-shirt banter. As I mentioned Wales smashed it in both our t-shirt challenge and that was mirrored in the match too, perhaps we ‘re like the World Cup Octopus, what else could we predict…..
Well it was Wet Wet Wet but not so cold, and I could just about “feel it in my fingers” as we made our “sweet surrender” to the rain and headed to the start line (do you see what I did ;o)). I was at the back with the Wright Bros so it was a “Sweet Little Mystery” to me that Derek had started the parkrun for week 91 (OK I’ll stop now with the Wet Wet Wet gags).
It was a comeback for me too this week as I had my first parkrun since 2nd Feb, due to injury so I was “Wishing I Was ….” all the way round just in case I did any damage but it was fine. I did say I was going to run with the Bros. but like most parkrunners I got parkrun fever at the bottom corner and started to run harder so sorry if I came past chatting and full of beans, I’ve really missed taking part.
Apparently there was a very close finish up front this week with Jeremy Meredith piping James Smith by just 2 seconds, apparently it was a cracker. In the female field Claire Martin (plus dog) came home first in a new PB of 22:29, well done both. Not far behind was Tewkesbury runner Carol Cowley with an amazing 83% age grading that’s “Simply the Best!”, well done.
Lots of newer parkrunners bagged PB’s this week, all still to break 10 parkruns. So Pb’ing this week were Samantha Hindle (29:07 – PB of 1min:49secs), Jonathan Everitt (23:39 - 0:06), Phil Shuard (22:37 - 0:22), Jon Huggett (25:29 - 0:34) , Kim Leng (26:20 – 0:25), Andrea Melillo (30:22 – 0:31), Carig Matthews (19:51 – 0:32), and Steve Eldredge (30:49 – 0:02). Special mention to Phil Robson who accompanied by Annie (and Trevor near the end) had a sterling run, Phil’s new to running and in his second run knocked 3 minutes of his PB, probably because Trevor was shouting at him so well done guys.
So it was off to the café for a brew and thankfully James was there to sort out the results as we had a dreaded “funnel ducker” again, hence us raising the flag to let us know your times so we could check we were OK and we were.
Well that’s it for this week at Worcester parkrun I’m off to Spain this week, so have a great parkrun next week and I’ll be thinking of you all in the morning. I’ll be taking my puddle bucket to make my sandcastles ;0) Happy Running!!
