Workington parkrun event report 1

Well done to everyone who attended the first Workington parkrun, the spectacular seaviews promised, were unfortunately hidden behind some murky clouds, however 55 runners turned out to support the inaugural event including parkrun veterans from across the North including Liverpool, Lancs and Bolton!

Thank you to the support from our Carlisle comrades, volunteers Andrew and Kev and those who ran it Barbara, Michelle, Paul, Garry and Rebecca.

The first Workington parkrun top spots went to:
Men's placings:
Robert MORRIS (SM20-24) of Derwent AC Cockermouth, was first over the line in 17:50 - first appearance.
Patrick MALKINSON (SM25-29) (Unattached) was second over the line in 19:45.
Stephen HACKLEY (SM35-39) of Derwent AC Cockermouth, was third over the line in 20:07.

Women's placings:
Rebecca BUCHANAN (JW15-19) of Carlisle Aspatria AC, was first (9th overall) over the line in 21:40 - first appearance.
Rachel Anne MELLOR (SW30-34) of Keswick AC, was second (13th overall) over the line in 22:27.
Susan CAIN (VW55-59) of Penny Lane Striders, was third (14th overall) over the line in 23:26.

This was the first parkrun for many people and hopefully the start of a beautiful running relationship but for Brian Smith it was his whooping 114th run! So, something to aspire to for us all!

So cogratulations once again to all, hope to see you again this Saturday, same time, same place! And don't forget to catch up afterwards with a cuppa across at the leisure centre.
