We woke this morning to sunny skies and a warm breeze – summer is here at last! Up on the Scrubs, we were joined today by a group of parkrun tourists from Basingstoke, celebrating the 50th parkrun and the recent birthday (not 50!) of Kerry Monaghan. The group brightened up the morning by dressing up as convicts and police officers, in deference to the proximity of the prison – the parkrun goes along its walls for part of the course. I'm reliably informed that there will be photographic evidence, so keep an eye on our website.
Our Basingstoke visitors boosted our numbers, and a total of 57 runners toed the line, ably briefed by run director Rob Ferguson.
The course is completely dry at the moment and, unlike the previous two weeks, there were no additional organised activities that we had to dodge. First male over the line was Richard Brook of Salford Harriers and AC, in a new PB of 17:50. He was followed by Matthieu Prevot of Clapham Chasers, in 19:11 and Colm Doherty in 19:15. First lady over the line was me, Andrea Broughton, of Thames Valley Harriers, in 23:32, followed by Sarah Taylor with a new PB of 23:51 and Agatha Obiekwe in 25:15. Kerry Monaghan celebrated her 50th run by coming in at number 50!
The first six age-graded scores were: Richard Brook, with 76.54%, Andrea Broughton, with 72.10%, Matthieu Prevot, with 69.59%, Pat Butcher, with 69.46%, Nicolas Schmitz, with 69.33%, and Hugh Ferrand, with 68.09%.
There were five new PBs today – in addition to those already mentioned, PBs were achieved by Chris Dodwell, Ewan Harris and Helen Kelly. Well done guys!
Thanks very much, as always, to today’s volunteers: Andrea BROUGHTON, Robert FERGUSON, Simon MADDISON, Jerome MATIL, Christian NIELSEN, Rizwan RAUF and Fran SANTOS As you know, we rely on volunteers, so if you’d like to get involved in volunteering at the Wormwood Scrubs Parkrun, please email email@example.com. There is some space in the schedules in the coming weeks.
