Wycombe Rye parkrun Run Report 29th February 2020 #390

Well done to all of the 362 participants who completed the world’s first ever leapparkrun at Wycombe Rye and what a wet and windy leap day it was. Whether you ran, walked, jogged, jeffed or swam(!) your way around the course you can rest easy in the knowledge that this won’t happen again until 2048 so you have an achievement that will take 28 years to be matched. A special welcome to the 8 first timers, I promise more of the course is normally visible above the river Wye!

There was lots to celebrate at Wycombe Rye parkrun #390. We had our first ever female first finisher (try saying that 3 times fast!) and not only that, she now holds the female course record with an amazing time of 17:49. Congratulations to Jessica Gibbon!

Official milestones included Ruth Walne completing her 100th parkrun and 50th parkruns were celebrated by Jan L Edwards and Chris Bailey, who wore the 50 parkrun bibs around the course, plus John Tallack and Shea Khabir who preferred to keep things a little more low key on the day. we're looking forward to seeing you all in your new shirts!

There were also some unofficial milestones to celebrate; Andy Shipley completed his 150th (Visually Impaired) run with Grant Curley as VI Guide hitting 50 volunteer days and our RD Jo Warnock-Horn completing her 100th volunteer day. With 34 RD credits, 33 pacer credits, and 8 VI guide running credits among the many roles she has fulfilled, Jo plays a big part in making Wycombe Rye parkrun so welcoming and inclusive to the whole community.

This week a larger than usual THANK YOU needs to go to our volunteers. When I woke up and heard the weather outside my window the first thing I did was cross my fingers and check the Facebook page. From setting up the course at 8am to clearing down just after 10, whether you were ankle deep in floodwater or holding down the gazebo so it didn't make like Mary Poppins, calling you all HiVis Heroes doesn’t feel like enough.

We also had a large team of pacers from the Hazlemere Runners, covering nearly every minute from 22 to 35. Thanks to Peter Astles, Bhavani Babu, Jayant Babu, Riaan Bakkes, Sally Bakkes, Rachel Bond, Rosemary Brereton, Sue Coates, Melanie Collins, Robert Collison, Grant Curley, Michael Dwarlove, Simon Fossel, Cara Frank, Gwenda Grange, Rob Grange, Guy Hylton, Louise Jarvis, Simon Jones, Andy Kelly, Helen Littler, Lyndsay Markham, Debbie Martin, Lewis Mediratta, Nik Mediratta, Andrew Pearce, Katrina Rints, Richard Roberts, Libby Rose, Helen Scott, Nick Sendall, Ann Smith, Karen Sprod, John Tallack, Jeff Taylor, Geraldine Thomas, Charlotte Thompson, Nicola Walker, Jo Warnock-Horn, Nick Weaving, Sarah Wilson, and Lucy Worsley for getting out there so we could get wet and muddy!

We look forward to welcoming you to Wycombe Rye parkrun next week for run #391 where your Run Directors will be Beth France and Carolyn Hall and I will be running my 50th parkrun. Don’t forget your barcode and if you must drive, please park considerately!
