Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 201
20th July 2019
Thanks to members of Halesowen Tri for sending in this report:
A beautiful morning as blue skies and the sun were above the treeline in Wyre Forest as runners, joggers and walkers ascended down to the visitors centre in preparation for the Wyre Forest parkrun. Alongside our usual parkrunners we had a group from Halesowen Tri in attendance. This was a special parkrun for the Halesowen Tri members as it was a memorial run for Bill Webb. A long standing member of their club that passed away suddenly at the end of June. Bill was a friendly man and a true gentlemen, greeting everyone with a big grin on his face as he always did. He had a passion for sports and helping others to reach their goals, attributes which will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Bill was a regular at Wyre Forest parkrun and so the minute’s applause that followed the usual run briefing was a particularly fitting tribute to the great man. Bill’s family came down especially to witness this and were obviously touched by the gesture. It is in times like this that we most appreciate the wonderful and supportive community that surrounds the parkrun movement.
Thank you to Halesowen Tri.
Today was also a busy day for parkrun in the area, it saw the inaugural run of the Severn Valley Country parkrun and it would be remiss of us not to congratulate them on their successful launch which saw 197 people take on their course.
Congratulations to the following new club memberships:
- Nigel Smith on joining the 100 club
- Vicki HULME on joining the volunteer 25 club, although she was helping out at the inaugural run of the Severn Valley Country parkrun at the time
