21/09/2019 Wyre Forest parkrun #210

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 210
21st September 2019

At times parkrun can be a surprisingly small community and it can be interesting to see how fast news can travel. I have mentioned in the past when writing up these run reports that there are a number of parkrunners out there with a keen interest in statistics who are bound to notice when anomalies crop up. Today was such an event.

After the results were posted it didn't take long for one of the results to stand out, specifically that of a lady in the 100-104 age bracket who had run the course in 25:35  giving her an age grading of 790.81%. Just in case the gradings don't mean much to the casual reader consider that anything above 100% would be a record breaking achievement.

After a little investigation (thanks Mark) it transpired that a parkrunner had registered his dog, presumably using dog years for the age. We therefore had to delete the entry from the results and would like to remind everyone that while dogs are welcome at our parkrun only humans age 4 and up can register to log a time.

Moving on from that as always we'd like to welcome all of our first time parkrunners:

Robin GREENWOOD • Mark KNIGHT • Adam BOWLES • Edward DUNN • Donni MACKENZIE • Caroline HALLOWELL • Tom MEES • Tony BOWLES • Kerry SHERWOOD • Dylan BEARD • Jamie CLARK

Congratulations also to our milestone runners:

50 parkruns: Adrian FORD (PB!) and James CHAPMAN

100 parkruns: Geoff MUTTON

This week 212 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 25 were first timers and 42 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 20 different clubs took part.

The event was made possible by 27 volunteers:

Carolyn KNOTT • Jonathan KNOTT • Eamonn O'BRIEN • Phil WEBER • Jake GOOD • Sarah PATERSON • Michael GAUNT • David STARKIE • Katy BROOME • Allyson MCCLUNG • Duncan STARKIE • Matt KIMBER • Leeanne ANDERSON • Ann CHADWICK • Rosie CHADWICK • John FRANCIS • Anthony NEWBOULD • David ALLISTON • Ruth ALLISTON • Ethan KNOTT • Pauline SMITH • Caz SMITH • Sandra HOWARD • Katherine EVANS • James CARTER • Deana KIMBER • Katy WOOLDRIDGE

Parkrun cannot happen without a weekly team of volunteers who give up their time to allow parkrun to be a safe and free event.

Please volunteer especially if you have not done so yet. There is loads of support and various roles that need to be filled each week with some allowing you to run and volunteer on the same event,so please do volunteer- it’s putting something back. The future rosters are available to view, along with a role description and how to contact the team on our web page.

One special volunteer is Lindsay Tillsley. Today Lindsay was awarded Volunteer of the Year Award. Many thanks for all your time. A well deserved award.

Looking forward to seeing you next week for another parkrun in the beautiful Wyre Forest.

And our run report is written by one of those 252 - the lovely Sandra HOWARD. Thanks Sandra, take it away..

The sun shone for us all as we ran in the beautiful Wyre Forest for the 206th  Wyre Forest parkrun.   Next week is our fourth Birthday.  To celebrate the theme is wear RED. It will be fabulous to see a sea of red though the Forest next week. Especially looking forward to seeing a red dress or two on the course!

A huge thank you to our Run Director this morning and his team of volunteers who make parkrun possible each week.

If it’s not something you have done before give it a go.  There are various jobs, some allow you to run and volunteer but we need volunteers to keep parkrun going.

Imogen JONES celebrated her 100th parkrun today  with a PB-well done.  Well done each runner over the finish line.  It doesn’t matter if you were the fastest or one of the slowest - you are a park runner.

We welcomed a few tourists and first timers today to Wyre Forest-  hope you liked our course and we see you again.

Thanks again to all you give up their time to allow parkrun to take park each week, especially those well past their 25 volunteer badge.

See you next week dressed in red.

Congratulations also to juniors Griff G and Harrison GWILLIAM who both ran their 10th parkruns with us today! Well done boys.

As Sandra said - next week is our 4th Birthday!! Where did that go?? The theme is a nice simple 'red' theme. So pop something red on instead of (or alongside) your usual parkrun kit and don't forget to bring cake if you can!!

27.7.19 Wyre Forest parkrun #202

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 202
27th July 2019

After all the lovely weather we have been having, this week it was a particularly wet parkrun! The weather didn't put people off though and this week 215 people ran, jogged or walked the course. 40 of those people were first timers and 31 recorded new Personal Bests.

As always, the event was made possible by our wonderful volunteers. This week we need to say thank you to:

Kim HOOD • Julie GOLDS • Mark WALLACE • Joanne WATSON • Julian ABLEY • Katy BROOME • Kirsty WILKES • Carole EVANS • David ROWLEY • Lindsay TILLSLEY • John FRANCIS • Vicki KELLY • Catherine LAVERTY • Jennet ROBERTS • Kay REEVES • Stuart BIRD • Sandra HOWARD • Debbie HYRONS • Jeremy FERGUSON • Florence HOWARD • Steve REDDING • Laura KIRKPATRICK • Clare COLEMAN • Dave COLEMAN • Graeme KIRKPATRICK

Our two time keepers were thrown in to the deep end this week, with neither of them having ever done parkrun timing before! However they did an amazing job, and we are very grateful to them.

IMG_3627
Thank you to our youngest marshals who stood out in the rain today! If you are yet to volunteer, or haven't volunteered in a while, please get in touch. It is really helpful if we can fill the roster in advance, so if you have any free dates in August or September - get in touch!

Even with a shoulder injury, Dave Rowley was able to volunteer, with his daughter Natasha. Dave followed our tail walker making sure all the signs were collected back in.

It was quiet on the milestone front this week, but we need to say a huge 'congratulations' to Zoe Elkin who ran her 50th parkrun today! Apologies for not getting a photo of you Zoe - we hope you had a fabulous run. If you are celebrating any milestones, please let the Run Director know so we can give you a shout out.

As you may have heard in our briefing, the Wyre Forest now has a junior parkrun! This is aimed at children aged 4-14, and will happen every Sunday at 9 o clock. Children can run independently round the 2k course, so lots of marshals are needed. If you are able to help out with the junior parkrun, please contact them at wyreforest-juniorhelpers@parkrun.com

IMG_3611
If you achieve a PB, please ring our PB bell! You will find the bell near the finish line. Congratulations to one of our regular volunteers, Ade Ford, on his PB this week.

Thank you to Kim Hood, who did a brilliant job of tail walking in the rain for us this week!

Fingers crossed for better weather next week! Until then, happy running :)
