Cleobury Mortimer 10k Race

We have been asked to share information on an upcoming local race: Cleobury Mortimer 10k

"After the massive success of the first Cleobury Mortimer 10k we are back bigger and better this year and we hope you will all join us. Whether you are a serious runner looking to take on the challenge of Ron hill, or a fun runner who wants to soak up the atmosphere of a well supported race, or you may even like to dress up as a dragon. Just make sure you are on the starting line on July 7th for another great event. The event sold out last year so we have added 50 more places which are filling quickly! So don't miss out and get signed up before this sells out".

12/08/2017 Wyre Forest parkrun #104 Kevin smashes his 50th with a PB

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 103
12th August 2017

This week 194 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 43 were first timers and 25 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 28 different clubs took part.

We had lots of visitors to us this week! They came from far and wide: New Zealand, Stroud, Maldon (Essex), West Yorkshire, Coventry, Solihull and Derby. We hope you all enjoyed visiting our beautiful parkrun.

For some it was their first ever parkrun! So extra kudos goes to:

Well done to you all and here's to the first of many!

Kevin LEWIS was running his 50th parkrun today (of which 22 were ran here). Kevin joined us after the sad closure of Hanbury Hall parkrun where he also ran 22 of his 50 runs. He celebrated in great style with a new PB of 24:06 - knocking a huge 39 seconds off his previous best!! That is very impressive. Congratulations Kevin!

The event was made possible by 25 super volunteers:

Vicky HONEYBOURNE • Nigel GARDNER • Mark WALLACE • Helen RUTHERFORD • Andrea FORD • Juliana BERGEL • Andrew T DAVIES • Lisa BAILEY • Rowan BAILEY • Chris SIMPSON • Adrian FORD • Andrew GARLICK • Duncan STARKIE • Martin BIGGS • Lisa GARLICK • Steven SMITH • Emma MORGAN • Lindsay TILLSLEY • John FRANCIS • Rebecca ROBINSON • Jacqui WINTER • Kevin HARRIS • Ryan MORGAN • Mark DAVIES • Oliver MARSHALL

It was great to see some new faces amongst the hi-viz team this week. Don't take my word for it but I'm pretty sure they enjoyed the experience and will be back again. If you haven't had a go I can reassure you that you have nothing to fear - try it, it's great fun! seeing parkrun from the other side is a fabulous experience.

We have overheard parkrunners saying that they don't want to miss their Saturday morning to run to volunteer. I understand this and I know that for some, opportunities to run are few and far between and need to be taken advantage of. But there are roles on our roster that can still be done. You could brief our new runners and tourists (a crib sheet is provided!), help to allocate volunteers at 8.30am (help always appreciated with this), sort the tokens back in to order after the run, or (please, please!) provide a written run report which I can then copy and paste into wordpress and publish. If you're a fast finisher you could even help with barcode scanning.

So don't be shy!! Email us at

Don't forget that our 2nd anniversary is just around the corner - Saturday August 26th. The theme is 'balloons' as it's a birthday party! So bring/wear a balloon and let's brighten the forest with an array of colour. Just remember to keep your balloon tethered to yourself as releasing balloons/littering them can result in environmental damage and we don't want that.

We would also like donations of cake thank you!! We had a table full of goodies to treat you all with last year and it would be great to have as many donations this time around.

Wyre Forest parkrun turns 2!

We will be celebrating our 2nd anniversary on Saturday August 26th.

As it's a party the theme is balloons!

Balloon parkrun

So we would like you all to bring a balloon and run with it for a special celebration parkrun.

There are no other stipulations (all balloons are welcome!) except that no balloons should be 'released' in to the forest (due to environmental reasons) or littered but we know that you will all dispose of them mindfully as you're such good people.

Balloon parkrun

Oh and of course - don't forget to bring CAKE!! We will have a table near the finish line which we'd like to fill with cakes and treats for us all to share so please chip in if you can.

We will also be presenting our annual award to the Volunteer of the Year.

See you there and "don't forget your barcode!"

Couch to 5k course starting in Cleobury Mortimer

Local running group 'Cleobury Mortimer Running Club' are starting a Couch to 5k group in Cleobury Mortimer on Fridays at 9am starting on September 18th 2015.

The course will be lead by qualified UKA run leaders and will meet outside Cleobury Mortimer Sports Centre. It is suitable for those who have never run at all before as well as beginners or those wanting to start running again after a break. Be reassured that this is a successful programme that builds up very slowly. Everyone follows the same plan, so no one is left behind. There is no charge for the course.

Over 9 weeks they will lead a proven run/walk programme which should enable everyone to run for 30mins at the end of it. Hopefully we can then see some of you at Wyre Forest parkrun, celebrating your achievements!
