Please support your local parkrun by volunteering every now and again. It's easy and fun! We meet at 8.30am and most roles can be fulfilled by 11am at the very latest! Contact us at wyreforesthelpers@parkrun.com to get on the roster. Thank you.

We have some extra special people to recognise as usual.

Firstly well done to Donna PERRY of Cleobury Mortimer Running Club who completed her 50th parkrun just before celebrating her birthday this week.

And we thanked Lisa BAILEY for volunteering on 50 separate occasions and said a sad farewell to Ann WEBBER who heads back home to Australia very soon (via Europe). We will miss you Ann and hope you come back and visit us in the future.

The Wyre Forest Hash House Harriers are in charge of proceedings this weekend and they have a theme - panto! You may remember that we had to cancel back in December due to heavy snowfall so we had to postpone the Hashers volunteer takeover until this weekend. But I know that we will all get in to the spirit of things regardless. Oh yes we will....!

See you on Saturday!

Christmas and New Year Announcement

Hi all

Just to confirm - there will be NOT be extra runs on Christmas Day or New Years Day this year.

Our core team have young families so we could not field a safe team to run extra events on these dates I'm afraid - I'm sure you all understand!

Sending you all best wishes for the festive season ahead - see you on all the usual parkrun Saturdays throughout the Christmas and New Year period though!

Andie and the team

02/01/2016 Wyre Forest parkrun #19 New year, new faces

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 19
2nd January 2016

Happy New Year to one and all! And welcome back everyone to Wyre Forest parkrun. We had a fabulous turnout this week with 174 runners and 18 volunteers ensuring a great atmosphere once more. We were just a few runners from beating our record turnout of 186 (at our inaugural) and I'm certain that this record will be broken very soon. We also had 53 first timers and we hope you all enjoyed your morning visiting us. It was very good of the rain to stop just while we ran!

We've now had 958 different runners complete our course. Which means that sometime over the next week or two we are likely to welcome our 1000th different finisher at Wyre Forest. I wonder who it will be?

Thanks as ever to our (award winning!!) ace team of volunteers:

Adrian FORD  •  Andrea FORD  •  Andrew GARLICK  •  Carole EVANS  •  Dave SMITH  •  Faith THOMPSON  •  India-Rose FORD  •  Jennie PATERNOSTER  •  John FRY  •  John KINGSTON  •  Judith FRY  •  Julie CARTER  •  Kim HOOD  •  Kirsty WILKES  •  Lisa BIGGS  •  Martin BIGGS  •  Neil CRABBE  •  Shirley THOMAS

I will have more details about our Volunteer of the Year award from Wyre Forest District Council Sports Awards next week!!

As I said in my Run Briefing, we need new volunteers to join us all the time. And it's great to see lots of you coming forward after Saturday's run - thank you. We really appreciate it.

Volunteers can opt-in to receive reminders via their parkrun profile and a link to this can be found on your results email or e-newsletter. The email address to contact us about volunteering is wyreforesthelpers@parkrun.com. Thank you.

We welcomed a group of youngsters from Bromsgrove and Redditch AC this week for an extra training session ahead of their cross country races this weekend. We hope the course attributes gave them a tough but purposeful training run! Their finish times suggest that they have some talented athletes among them.

Despite the awful weather leading up to 9am on Saturday morning, we had some great performances on the day. Kudos to everyone who came out in such unpromising conditions. The rain did clear and we saw 32 PBs and 5 Age Category Records broken. Well done parkrunners!

Extra congratulations go to juniors Fiona Starkie and Michael Cavaciuti who both completed their tenth parkruns this week - great stuff.

Speaking of juniors - please don't forget that Under 11s must run within reach of an adult at all times. This is regardless of their talent I'm afraid and if they are too quick for you then they need an alternative designated responsible adult who can run with them.

So a special shout out to those new Age Category Record holders. Jack Pickett (of Wolverhampton and Bilston AC) was our second male finisher this week and now holds the JM11-14 record with a time of 18:48 - seriously impressive. New JW11-14 Age Category record holder Alice Charlotte Battey (one of the aforementioned talented runners from Bromsgrove and Redditch AC) ran a speedy 21:09 and was second female.

We also have new record holders in the VM and VW60-64 category as Derek Jackson finished the course in 20:36 and Joan Clarke in 24:03. Interestingly (and rather impressively), Joan also holds the record in the VW55-59 category so I'm assuming she has recently moved to a new category.

And not forgetting our very own regular volunteer Carole Evans who is now the Age Category record holder for VW70-74. We are very proud of you Carole!

Well done also of course to first finishers Richard Walsh and Ellen Bowen and to Archie Roberts and Sian Davis who both ran PBs to finish third male and female respectively. The full stats are below.

Biggest shoutout of all though to the 18 runners who completed their FIRST ever parkrun this week! Welcome to the parkrun club - the biggest and best running club in the world!

See you all on Saturday folks, and don't forget those (paper!) barcodes!! Have a great week. Andie

Arrangements for Christmas and New Year

Wyre Forest parkrun will continue to operate throughout the festive period as usual. This year that includes Boxing Day on Saturday 26th December 2015 and Saturday 2nd January 2016.

Unfortunately, the Forest Cafe will not be open until 11.00am on Boxing Day. So please bring along your own refreshments that day.

Though we were given the option to add extra events on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, as yet we do not have a large enough base of core volunteers to operate additional runs. If you'd like to see this change, please join our volunteer mailing list by opting in to receive volunteer emails via your parkrun profile.

The good news is that there are local runs happening on Christmas Day. Worcester start at 9.00am and Arrow Valley at 10.00am.

For further details about all parkruns over the festive period please check out the Christmas Compendium at http://www.parkrun.org.uk/christmas-compendium/

The team at Wyre Forest parkrun would like to wish all our runners, walkers, volunteers and supporters a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year.
