29/12/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun #172 Will and Chloe make it a Course Record double

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 172
29th December 2018

Happy New Year to all Wyre Forest parkrunners, volunteers, supporters and friends!

This week 269 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 51 were first timers and 27 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 37 different clubs took part.

#wyreforestparkrun136

This was our second highest attendance since Wyre Forest parkrun began in august 2015!

But this week was all about the fabulous Will and Chloe RICHARDSON. The brother and sister who train with Birchfield Harriers were on fire on Saturday and took both the male and female Course Records! Huge CONGRATULATIONS!

Will broke his own record, taking another 8 seconds of his time from a few weeks ago (which is an incredible chunk at this end of the field) to finish in 15:38!

DSC_1837

Chloe beat her previous Wyre Forest parkrun PB by 4 seconds to claim the Female Course Record in a time of 17:53!

DSC_1841

It should be noted here that Will has held our overall Course Record from Day 1 at Wyre Forest but Chloe is the only woman to run faster than the previous fastest female Bryony HAINES! Absolutely amazing. Well done to them both, we can't wait to see what else they can do!

Untitled
Photo: They were too fast for photos this week but just so you know who to look out for, photos are from previous parkruns!

Another incredibly fast parkrunner who visited us from his home run at Hereford this weekend was Brian SYMONDS. Brian ran our challenging course in a time of 26:58 which I know lots of us would be happy with - but Brian is in the VM75-79 category!! So he now holds the Age Category Record for that group. Well done Brian.

We welcomed the following newcomers to parkrun and hope that you all enjoyed your first parkrun:

Matthew DIMBYLOW, Charlotte TOMKINSON, Fraser THOMPSON, James CLEE, Kirsty MURRAY, Raith MARSHALL, Aengus MARSHALL, Mark WALKER, James CHATTIN, Lata G, Billy BROOKS

The event was made possible by 27 super volunteers:

Vicky HONEYBOURNE • Kim HOOD • Shirley THOMAS • Lindsay B PULLEY • Frances GEDDIE • Lisa BAILEY • Elizabeth HINTON • Andrew GARLICK • Graeme ANDERSON • Heather MORGAN • John FRANCIS • Terry MORGAN • Juliet WALL • Darren HUBBLE • Gavin MILLICHIP • Donna PERRY • Rachael SHEPHERD • Kevin HARRIS • Michael GREGG • Wayne GRIFFIN • Pauline SMITH • Caz SMITH • Sandra HOWARD • Florence HOWARD • Bev KERNOHAN • Sarah JORDAN • Mark SHELDON

We are now filling the roster for January so please get in touch if you can help - earlier the better please so that our volunteer co-ordinator can get the roles allocated early and not panic on a Friday night! Thank you.

Congratulations to all our parkrunners who completed milestone runs this week:

Juniors Zoe GILBODY and Rachel CLEE both ran their 10th parkruns and regular Wyre Forester Mick HUDSON ran his 100th parkrun! well done all of you.

And our lovely Katy BROOME completed her milestone 25th parkrun volunteering! Thank you so much Katy (and Ruby the dog!)

22/12/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun #171 Sandra’s Sparkly Christmas Run Report

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 171
22nd December 2018

This week's Christmas parkrun report is written by the lovely Sandra HOWARD. So relax and enjoy!

Untitled

The press called today ‘Super Saturday’ and what a super Saturday it was as 242 of us completed this weeks parkrun on such a beautiful morning too. As it was the last Saturday before Christmas - many entered the spirit of Wyre Forest parkrun and dressed in suitable Christmas attire. Where else would you see a Christmas present running alongside Christmas trees and a Christmas pud? Even some of the dogs came dressed up. There were Santa’s and reindeer in a sea of red and green running through the wyre forest. One lucky child had their very own sleigh ride this morning!

We celebrated some milestone runs this morning. Morgan PUPLETT and Olivia CHILDE both celebrated their tenth parkrun. Well done both.

Maddie HORTON, Tristan REAVES and Sara HARRIS all completed their 50th run and Stuart JONES and Shirley THOMAS both completed their 100th. Well done all.

As 242 of us ran around the forest we were cheered on by our wonderful volunteers. These are the people that make parkrun possible each week. So if you have not yet volunteered - make it a New Years resolution to give it a go. It’s easy and you are giving something back into parkrun. Two volunteers today gained their 25 volunteer badges. They were the wonderful Sandra PEDERSON cheering us on as we ran and the wonderful Debbie HYRONS who was issuing us with our finish tokens. Well done both and a huge THANK YOU TO YOU BOTH.

Some special marshal mentions this morning must go to the lovely girls at the 4K mark for singing jiggle bells so well as we passed them and to Mason the reindeer for encouraging us on before we ran up cardiac hill. A big thank you to goes to Ryan MORGAN who with a little help from his mum made some scrumptious shortbread Christmas trees for us as a post run treat. Thank you.

Thank you again to all of those who volunteered today to make this event happen . Merry Christmas to all.

Thank you Sandra for a wonderful Run Report.

This week 242 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 18 were first timers and 17 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 29 different clubs took part.

It was a very chilly run this week so thanks to all those amazing volunteers once again.

DSC_1807

So where do I start with this week's run report? We had several important milestones and three big birthdays to celebrate this week. Cake, balloons and fancy dress were in abundance!

I think we should start with our oldest EVER parkrunner - the local (Wolverley) legend that is Lindsay B PULLEY. Lindsay turned 80 this Saturday and despite partying the night before with his Cleobury Running Club friends, he and several of them turned up (some more bleary eyed than others) to join Lindsay and his son Nick (home parkrun Rushcliffe) on his 225th parkrun.

DSC_0434

DSC_1901

Lindsay is of course very well known in the local running community as the man who founded Amazing Feet Running Club (Kidderminster) and has then ran for Dudley Kingswinford and Midland Masters AC before recently joining CMRC.

At 80, Lindsay becomes an Age Category Record holder at Wyre Forest with his time of 35:24. He was just jogging so he will no doubt beat his own record when he next tries!

At the other end of the age scale we also celebrated Adam SCURRELL's 16th Birthday! And Adam was also running his 100th parkrun - a milestone he shared with mum MICHELLE (Shelly)! I said it was a busy week....! Congratulations Adam and Shelly (of Tri Energy) and thank you for all the volunteering you do too.

Untitled

Matthew BAILEY was also running his 100th parkrun this week - he joined Lindsay and his CMRC club mates to complete his milestone in a more leisurely fashion than usual (Matt is no stranger to the P001 token!) and thanks to wife ROWAN we all enjoyed some delicious cakes afterwards! Congratulations Matt.

DSC_1884

DSC_0394

Next up was another Wyre Forest regular Tony COLCLOUGH (aka Frosty) of the Wyre Forest Hash House Harriers - he was also running his 100th parkrun and his club mates carried on their usual tradition with a themed parkrun - this week FLAMINGOES!

DSC_1905

DSC_1893

Congratulations also to junior Daniel WALLIS who completed his 10th parkrun, Jemima SHELDON and Mark SHELDON who ran their 50th parkruns and our lovely Debbie HYRONS (token sorter extraordinaire!) who also ran her 50th parkrun as volunteer sign collector.

DSC_0591
Photo: Our fab Debbie at the end of this week's run

We also wished a Happy 65th Birthday to camera shy Chris HANCOX!

I really hope I haven't missed anyone!

And finally - I couldn't resist sharing this photograph! Titled "When you manage to beat the course record holder over 100m dressed as a flamingo"! Thank you Mark WALLACE for this classic moment and to photographer Gav MILLICHIP for capturing it perfectly!

DSC_1812

It's going to be hard to top all these celebrations but I'm sure you'll all help us try as we celebrate Christmas this week with our usual festive fancy dress parkrun. We will bring cakes and music, we just need you to bring the fun! Oh and your barcodes too of course!

See you there
Andie

#wyreforestparkrun151218 #kidderminsterfoodbank #foodbank

Well done to Chloe RICHARDSON who this week broke the Age Category Record for SW25-29 - this record now stands at a staggeringly quick 18:29 but we are pretty sure that the awesome Chloe will improve on that in the future!

And Congratulations also to Bev KERNOHAN who completed her milestone 50th parkrun with us!

A huge thank you to everyone who donated items to our collection for Kidderminster Foodbank. Graeme ANDERSON delivered the items this week and of course they were very grateful! Every time we ask you to help a cause we are always overwhelmed by your generosity, its incredibly humbling. So once again - thank you all.

Now we have a couple of busy weeks coming up! This Saturday (15th December) we have several important milestones and birthdays being celebrated including the legend that is Lindsay PULLEY's 80th Birthday!! And then the following Saturday (22nd December) it is our Christmas themed run. So please can I ask everyone to arrive nice and early for the briefings on these dates and bring something warm to wear beforehand if necessary. We also impart any important course safety information during the briefing so it is important to listen every week regardless.

If anyone would like to bring cakes/biscuits etc. for the Christmas run then that would also be appreciated! Thank you!

Really looking forward to some fab celebrations over the next couple of weeks with you all! Until then, best wishes (and fingers crossed for NO snow!)

This week just 129 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 9 were first timers and 17 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 20 different clubs took part. The weather was pretty appalling and it wasn't surprising that numbers were noticeably down on usual!

Untitled
Photo: It was a tad muddy out there!

In fact we only had two brave first timers this week, well done to Jo LIST and Karl TIBBETTS for still turning up despite the conditions!!

The event was made possible by 24 volunteers who we should really give extra thanks too this week, many of whom were out in the rain from 8:30am to get to their marshal points. We really are incredibly grateful to you all:

Nigel GARDNER • David MORE • Mark WALLACE • Andrea FORD • Neil CRABBE • Andrew GARLICK • Katy BROOME • Duncan STARKIE • Lisa BIGGS • Martin BIGGS • Lisa GARLICK • Aran MOORE • Matt KIMBER • Heather MORGAN • John FRANCIS • Paul SCURRELL • Adam SCURRELL • Michael GREGG • Pauline SMITH • Caz SMITH • Katherine EVANS • Catherine WILLIAMS • Steve REDDING • Maisie WHITE

Please don't forget that this Saturday coming (December 8th) we will be collecting donations for Kidderminster Foodbank. As Graeme told us in the briefing, this is s difficult time of year for many and they are short on quite a few items particularly: Toilet rolls, women's sanitary products, toiletries, tin openers, nappies and baby food. But of course - all food is welcome so please donate what you can! Thank you.

#Wyreforestparkrun241118

Thank you as always to our volunteers, without them we have no parkrun!

Well, what a morning!! It's always exciting when we see that our course record holder Will RICHARDSON is running as we know that he will set a fast pace. Will came within 2 seconds of his CR last week and so we knew he'd be hungry to try and beat it this week.

For those that don't know, Will (of Birchfield Harriers) has been the Course Record holder at Wyre Forest since our inaugural run back in August 2015! Since then he has beaten it on 5 occasions and taken nearly 30 seconds off it.

#Wyreforestparkrun241118

And this weekend made that six times as he took another second off his previous best to mean that the new Course Record now stands at 15:46 - that's 5:04 min/mile pace which is pretty staggering from where I'm sitting!! It was also great to see the whole family running too as sister Chloe, mum Janette and Dad Paul (who got a PB!) also joined in the fun.

#Wyreforestparkrun241118

Well done Will - can't wait to see what you do next.

We also celebrated another course record holder. Ronald LYNES (of Kidderminster and Stourport Athletics Club) holds the age category record at Wyre Forest for VM75-79 (29:23!) and this week he completed his milestone 50th parkrun. Well done Ron!!

Now, a couple of our parkrunners completed their 100th parkruns and didn't tell us!!! But the results aren't so shy so CONGRATULATIONS to Peter CORNISH and Liz HINTON on your 100th parkruns!! I had to go back into the Flickr archives for your photos (sorry both!)

If you're celebrating a milestone - don't be shy and tell us so that we can give you the applause you deserve.

Looking forward to another fabulous event this Saturday, see you there and 'don't forget your barcodes!'

17/11/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun #166 Who says Annette can’t run??!

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 166
17th November 2018

This week 190 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 25 were first timers and 33 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 25 different clubs took part.

Welcome to the following first-time parkrunners who were all marvellous!:

Danny COATES, Steve COATES, Rachel LAMINE, William BLAKEMORE, Jo PARKER, Oliver BLAKEMORE, Jo UNWIN, Jason BLAKEMORE, Helen AKE

Congratulations to youngster Tegan SKELLERN who earned her milestone 10 t-shirt this week and to our awesome Annette MORE who ran her 100th parkrun! Annette told me that she only started running 4 years ago after husband David said she'd couldn't run to save her life! Annette has certainly turned the tables though as David is a fair way behind on 72 parkruns!

We also welcomed a rather awesome tourist this week. From Severn Bridge parkrun we were joined by Vic 'nskruff AINSWORTH who completed the course (and her 102nd parkrun) on crutches!! Anyone who has struggled up towards the finish line on Cardiac Hill will have nothing but respect for the determination this must have taken! Thanks for coming Vic, we hope you enjoyed your visit.

Wyre Forest parkrun #165 Sasha’s Run Report

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 165
10th November 2018

We have another guest run report writer this week, ten year old Sasha GUEST. You may remember her sister Aneka's run report from a few weeks ago... well this one is equally brilliant! Here's what Sasha has to say:

My name is Sasha Guest and I am 10 years old. This week I ran and got a time of 35.34 – not my best time but I had a stich. It is really freaky but my identical twin sister Aneka GUEST who was walking the Post Event Close Down with my mum, also got a stich at the same time!

My dad Keith GUEST got 35.41 but as Aneka mentioned in her earlier report, he keeps eating the Christmas cakes he has been making for Christmas and that is slowing him down. He said he got a bad time because he waited for me but I am not sure. Ha ha ha.

Peter CARTWRIGHT got another great time of 23.56. The Latte and croissants he always has after the run keep him going. We always go for breakfast afterwards in a big group.

Matt SUTTON you are definitely getting better. Do you think the sneaky extra run in the week is helping? Are you trying to beat anyone in particular!!!! He he he.

Sandra HOWARD well done at 38.17. Mum says she will try and keep up with you next week.

Gill JONES and Debbie HYRONS walked this week because they were doing a big run on Sunday – hope you both did well. Mum says your times are getting so good.

Jan LAW has just come back to parkrun and she decided to walk this time. I think she had too many clothes on as she was boiling as she crossed the line. She won’t do that next week when she runs.

Aneka Guest said it was good doing the Post Event Close Down as you start walking with the tail Walker which was Sharon JEPSON and as you get further you pick up lots of volunteers who are the Marshalls on route which makes it fun. I might do that one day.

See you next week.
Sasha Guest

Brilliant report thank you Sasha.

This week 227 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 43 were first timers and 21 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 24 different clubs took part.

03/11/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun #164 Lee’s Run Report

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 164
3rd November 2018

This week 183 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 23 were first timers and 26 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 26 different clubs took part.

And we are pleased to have another guest run report writer - this week it's Lee ASHTON. Take it away Lee.

Photo: Lee in action a couple of weeks ago

Firstly let me apologise as it seems I've been mentioned a number of times in the last few weeks runs reports, so hopefully the good people of the Wyre Forest are not fed up of seeing my name yet.

Todays run was back to a 'normal' Saturday after some recent events and crazy goings on on the forest, although it's good to see it didn't fizzle out and went off with another bang, and all the runner were sparkling! (come on people it is Bonfire night!)

Untitled

I wanted tor write a run report as I reached the milestone of 50 park runs last week and talk about the journey I've been on because of it.

Back in 2016 I was diagnosed with angina and found to have blocked artery. I was fitted with a stent and began my way back to fitness, having always been an active sports person. After a big kick up the backside from this; I was looking to find other forms of exercise and not just my usual rambling around a cricket field. In the middle of 2017 I was introduced to very soggy Saturday morning run round the forest tracks with a stupidly hard finish, not what I was expecting!

It was a bit of a hit and miss affair to start with and some Saturdays I looked out the window and thought nahhhh, add in a few holidays that got in the way and its fair to say my parkrun adventure had a stuttering start.

But around this time a year ago something changed and I got the running bug! What contributed to this was the marvellous atmosphere created at the Wyre Forest parkrun. The core team do such a fantastic job and the volunteers are so friendly and encouraging. (I've had friends come and run here and they've all commented how much more friendly our team is than theirs!!!). It so uplifting when you actually think you're an anonymous, but Andie and her team seem to know almost everyone by name and when you hear it called out towards the finish you get that little burst of energy you need. The high fives from the youngsters help, and I must admit I'm always on the look out for that camera!

Of course there is also the brilliance of the all the runners that provide entertainment too, how can you not be amused and also frustrated by the fact that at anytime you could be overtaken by a hairy bloke in a red dress or a scary orange monster. I am going to promise right now that one day I will dress up and join in a fancy dress run, it's just that some of us struggle running in normal gear let alone an inflatable dinosaur.

DSC_1735
Photo: Aforemnetioned men (and women!) in red dresses at a recent parkrun

I am proud to say I have done all 50 (now 51) of my parkruns at the Wyre Forest and don't really want to go anywhere else but I've decided that I may have to do a couple of tourist ventures just to get to the end and say... it's nothing like 'cardiac hill. I love the fact that Wyre Forest gives us that challenge each week and no matter how much you run it, it still looms over you after that downhill burst.

Untitled
Photo: the end of Cardiac Hill before the runners appear!

Having started at 36 minutes and now having PB of just over 25 minutes, I've come along way on my parkrun journey. My aim now is before my 40th birthday in June, I will run a fancy dress, do a tourism somewhere and get the Wyre Forest mention but mostly I want to break the 25 minute barrier - maybe I can grab Ben's pacing team from the other week to pull me round.

I've rambled on about myself enough but I just wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone who is associated with Wyre Forest parkrun for making it such an enjoyable event for all the runners that take part and creating a real community atmosphere. Here's to the next 50!!

I'd also like to point people to a Podcast that I listen to each week - it's called Free Weekly Timed and can be found on most podcast players. Its all about parkrun and has a hall of fame section which I've tried to get Wyre Forest Mentioned on but have been unsuccessful so far.. maybe some others could email in.

See you all next Week

Lee Ashton

P.s just had to mention Peter CARTWRIGHT  (pictured above, in red top) who I've made friends with since starting Park Run... think I've upset him as he got to 50 before me but I have my t-shirt before him.

Thanks Lee for another fabulous Run Report! Hope you enjoy the next 50 parkruns and continue to stay in good health.

There were a couple of quiet milestones this week (don't be shy!! Tell us!) Oscar ASHTON completed his 10th parkrun as did Aneka GUEST. Well done to you both. Catherine LAVERTY ran her 50th parkrun too! Congratulations Catherine. Hopefully your t-shirt will arrive quickly too!

The event was made possible by 26 awesome volunteers:

Nigel GARDNER • Mark WALLACE • Sarah PRICE • Andrea FORD • Andrew T DAVIES • Neil CRABBE • Andrew GARLICK • Katy BROOME • Carole EVANS • Lisa GARLICK • Lindsay TILLSLEY • David FISH • Emily PRICE • Rachael SHEPHERD • Michael GREGG • Maria MIHAJLOVIC • Aneka GUEST • Daren JACKSON • Pauline SMITH • Debbie JACKSON • Lee ASHTON • Linda MALLINSON • Steve REDDING • Debbie REDDING • Julie DRAPER • Heidrun HAEGE

Thank you to them all!

And Congratulations to this week's first time parkrunners:

Ben FRANCIS, Rachel TURNER, Emma LENO, Alexander BOND, Harry BOND, Laura MORGAN, Lisa WATTON, Andy SMART, Anita HASLUM, Andy BROOKS, Saskia KRUFT WELTON, Claire BRASSINGTON

And finally - a thank you to our visitors from Wallsend Harriers who we hear were very supportive at the bottom of Cardiac Hill - it didn't go unnoticed so cheers to you all!

27/11/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun #163 halloween spooky spectacular

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 163
27th October 2018

We have another guest run report writer this week - hurrah for the fabulous Imogen GUNSON for her account of our Halloween themed run: enjoy!

With a clear crisp morning for a forest run we arrived to what should be an excellent event, enhanced by many runners, walkers, canine friends and volunteers in some impressive Halloween fancy dress!

Halloween2018parkrun

A first timers welcome came from Neil CRABBE with much encouragement to the young first timer for their first finisher aspirations! With reminders that in my experience rather unusually it’s just one lap we gathered with the masses for Andie’s main briefing - foregoing the blue and white hi vis for a pumpkin I think we could still clearly spot her!

Wyre Forest Halloween parkrun 2018
Photo: Run Director Andie!

With clear to follow tracks we set off on the downhill, however just shy of a mile in a local discussing with their running partner that it was all uphill now have me something to look forward to - a stinker of a hill to finish, and he wasn’t joking I’d say!

DSC_1751
Photo: The lead runners make their way up through the beautiful autumn forest

Beautiful forestry surroundings are always a pleasure to run in, but I wonder how many courses can boast overhead zip wires, quite odd to look up mid run and find someone hovering above!

To keep with the fancy dress theme as we learnt from Facebook... the trick is remembering your barcode, the treat is parkrun :-)

Wyre Forest Halloween parkrun 2018

In total 231 parkrunners walked, jogged or ran of whom a huge 50 achieved new PBs, well done all! Today’s milestones were achieved by Kevin LEWIS into the ’100 club’, Lee ASHTON, Helen ROSEWARNE and Sam MUSCUTT into the ’50 club’ and Hannah BOWLES into the ‘junior 10 club’ – I’m sure they’ll be looking forward to proudly wearing their respective black, red and white shirts before long.

Today we were joined by 13 first timers who hopefully enjoyed themselves so much they’ll return and maybe even catch the tourist bug, as I was one of 27 tourists today.

Final note always has to be a thank you to the hi-vis heroes of which we had 32 volunteers today, we really couldn’t enjoy our run without you!
