Welcome to:

Ryan BURKIN, Matthew BRANCH, Rebecca THOMPSON, Kris THOMPSON, Matt GILL, Archie SMITH, Paul FERN, Kerrie MCCLOY, Liz JOHNSON, Jodie BURKIN, Susan BELCHER, Philip GODDARD, Daisy SWANNELL, Sarah EGGINTON, Abby PHILPOTTS, Sam JOHNSON, Rachel BROOKES, Kate DULSON

And just as we said hello to lots of new parkrunners it was sadly time to say farewell to two of our most popular and regular parkrunners. Tina and Pete SMITH have been running at Wyre Forest since we began with their friends (two and four legged) at Forest Monsters. They have completed 187 parkruns between them. They are leaving the area to embark on new adventures in Scotland and we wish them all the very best. It really won't be the same without you both!

P1000107

There were lots milestones achieved this week so looking forward to seeing some new t-shirts very soon! Well done to the following who all ran their 50th parkrun this week:

Harry EDWARDS (photographed below - Harry visited us with fiancee Lara and finished in style in first place with a new PB!), Rhodri PARFITT, Andrew CROOT, James PAYTON (also achieving a new PB - extra kudos!) and Linda MALLINSON (also going home with an awesome new PB!).

lara

Well done all of you.

And CONGRATULATIONS too to regular Wyre Forest parkrunner and Tri Energy member Graham GOOD who ran his 100th parkrun in suitable attire!

P1000112

Whether it was your first parkrun or 232nd we are always thrilled to see you all cross that finish line (usually with a look of sheer relief on your faces), so well done everyone!

21/04/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun #136 Dale’s run report (contains bacon)

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 136
21st April 2018

This week's run report is brought to us by the man behind the funding for our event! Let's enjoy Dale EVANS' first run report!

"It is my turn to do this week’s run report as I’ve managed to avoid this role quite nicely up till now.
Firstly it was a stunning day, which was surprising as Graeme ANDERSON was Run Director and he is known for bringing the rain, sleet, and snow.

Graham

We had 186 runners, joggers, and walkers present and they all seemed to have a jolly time which included me. It was actually my 1st time which is strange as being the Sport Development Officer for Wyre Forest District Council. I was the one who secured the funding for the Wyre Forest parkrun, I was heavily involved in measuring the course and route before we began, and yet I have never completed the actual run. And the disappointing thing is there is no record of it as I forgot my barcode – the ultimate parkrun sin. I apologise to you all, there is an excuse which I will get to later however.

Start

Before I defend my crime I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all of the volunteers. I mentioned earlier that I secured the £3000 to put parkrun on, which I knew little about at that stage. Worcester parkrun showed me the ropes, a man called Richard RALPHS helped enormously, however I came within a few weeks of giving the funding up and therefore also giving up on the parkrun dream. My problem was I could not get a core team of volunteers together at all which was required.

Then BOOM, out of nowhere an email came from Andie FORD, I went to meet her and her friends in the social club/bar in Cleobury and that night Wyre Forest parkrun was born. Andie was brilliant, the driving force of the whole scheme which couldn’t have happened without her. Her friends were dedicated, hard working, and passionate about running, plus she had a fair few friends. And even her husband Ade was good with technology and was willing to wake up early to set up, two skills I sadly lack.

I have massive respect for that core team who you will still see volunteering week in week out. And what I love about parkrun now is how the volunteering team just grows and grows with takeovers occurring, family friends and kids joining, DofE students, injured runners, the list goes on. Graeme from WF Hash House Harriers was our Run Director this week and had many of his group volunteer with him. They were all disappointingly dressed quite sensibly for a change but did such a fantastic job.

#wyreforestparkrun136

I would like to thank all of you!!!:

Kim HOOD • David MORE • Shirley THOMAS • Mark WALLACE • Philip SHELDON • Sarah PRICE • Helen ROSEWARNE • David STARKIE • Dale EVANS • Duncan STARKIE • Emma MORGAN • Graeme ANDERSON • Ann CHADWICK • Rosie CHADWICK • Lauren CHADWICK • Tom ANDERSON • Sandra PEDERSEN • Emma PAINE • Lindsay TILLSLEY • Ellie ANDERSON • Luisa TURNER • Jo MATHEWS • Molly MATHEWS • Daren JACKSON • Pauline SMITH • Matt JACKSON • Caz SMITH • Debbie JACKSON • Tracey HILL • Lewis HILL

#wyreforestparkrun136

Right, back to my excuse for my lack of a barcode. A mum with a very sweet 5 year old daughter turned up late this Saturday. Worried about her not finding her way I made the quick decision to join them to show them the way, hence not being prepared and having my barcode. On a positive I did find new ways to inspire a 5 year old to run, chasing my shadow was one (thank you for a sunny day), and racing to bench’s with the winner allowed to have a 1 min rest was the other (I didn’t win one race plus there’s a distinct lack of benches in the last 1.5k). Either way I made a friend in Iris (the 5 year old) who proceeded to eat half of my bacon butty after. I don’t like sharing bacon but she definitely deserved it".

Thank you so much Dale for a fab run report - see you next week?? With your barcode?!

Congratulations to this week's first timers:

Liane CHRISTIE, Natasha ROWLEY, Sinead WHITTALL, Noah CARSON-BROWN, Georgia CONNOR, Kimberly COOK, James BROWN, Victoria STEADMAN, Liz COALTER, Macklin COALTER, Richard TEAGUE, Christopher GITTINS, George RUDD, Ben PEEL

Thank you to Emma PAINE who took some of the photographs used in this report.

Next week we have another of our fabulous running club volunteer takeovers and the aforementioned guys and girls from Cleobury Mortimer Running Club will be running the event for us.

See you all next week!

10/03/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun #130 Pershore Plum Plodders turn the forest purple

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 130
10th March 2018

It was great to be back after last week's 'Beast from the East' forced cancellation. This is what the forest looked like last Saturday!:

DSC_0620

Very beautiful but unfortunately (but sensibly) the site was closed by the Forestry Commission due to the amber warning in place.

We got back to normal this week and 189 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 44 were first timers and 21 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 18 different clubs took part.

We were particularly well attended by several members of the Pershore Plum Plodders who are touring some local parkruns at the moment. Great to have you with us guys!

Trevor CLARK took some fabulous photographs which appear here: Flickr

And marshal Gavin MILLICHIP was snapping away as usual and added his photographs to our official Flickr page (link at the bottom) including this fabulous photo of a deer that he spotted on his way to his marshal post:

There were lots of first timers this week - Carole was inundated at the 'first timers and tourists briefing'!

We must give a mention to the awesome Christine SEDMAN-SMITH who broke the Age Category Record for VW7-74 this weekend in an outstanding time (and PB) of 26:49!! I know many of us would be proud of this time but to put it into context, this is an age grading of 83.03%. That makes Christine the third 'fastest' finisher at Wyre Forest if we were to base results on age - just behind Will and Bryony - our male and female Course Record holders! There are no barriers to participation at parkrun, and no barriers to performance either. Well done Christine.

Don't forget that next week is our themed run for volunteer Ryan's 25th. The theme is 'Books' so lets see what you can do with that Wyre Foresters!

Til next time,
Andie

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Wyre Forest parkrun Results Page.

15/04/2017 Wyre Forest parkrun #86 Martin’s report on a record breaking run

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 86
15th April 2017

It was a sunny Easter Bank Holiday this Saturday and Martin JUKES was volunteering as a marshal - he tells us about Wyre Forest parkrun from his vantage point. Thank you Martin.

#WyreForestparkrun86 Easter Saturday

"Saturday morning was here again and I was up and ready for parkrun bright and early. I had offered to volunteer as a Marshal so arrived at Wyre Forest a little earlier than normal. Bill kindly showed me to my position at Marshal Point 7 and I realised it was in the dreaded uphill zone between 3km and 4km, the part of the course that I always find most challenging.

So there I was, standing on my own on a beautiful fresh morning, in silence, waiting. I waited patiently and after a couple of false starts from dog walkers I saw the first runners striding towards me, I made some polite noises of encouragement as they passed me, striving for a good time. Then before too long more and more came and went and I grew in confidence as I started to recognise a few faces. My encouragement was increasing but so too was the response from the parkrunners. Frequent shouts of 'Thank You Marshal' were well received as parkrunners all gave their best.

The time went so quickly as face after face went past. Some were struggling up the hill, others were moving well but what was most noticeable was that nearly everybody was having a good time. It did not matter where people were in the field, they all faced the 3-4km stretch, some with concentration and focus, some faces in pain but most of all faces of happiness and a sense of achievement, I saw it all from Marshall point 7. Then before I know it the Tail Runners are with me and we collect the signs and start walking towards the finish.

This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience in the beautiful fresh air of Wyre Forest. Watching people push themselves but still have the time to say hello whilst taking part in parkrun was great. I would heartily recommend volunteering and I will do it again. It gave me a great deal of satisfaction without the pain of running! I would also like to say that I appreciated the gratitude shown by runners and walkers and that it really makes a difference; we all know that these weekly events can only take place because of volunteers.

#WyreForestparkrun86 Easter Saturday

I hope to be running again next week and will make an extra point of thanking the Marshals and Volunteers".

Thank you Martin!

If you are interested in volunteering too please email us at wyreforesthelpers@parkrun.com thank you.

This week 255 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 70 were first timers and 51 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 27 different clubs took part.

This is a brand new Course Attendance record!! Fabulous - well done everyone. And it contributed to a record breaking weekend across the world where the overall parkrun record was smashed by over 10,000 runners!

08/04/2017 Wyre Forest parkrun #85

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 85
8th April 2017

Wyreforestparkrun08042017

It was truly perfect morning for a parkrun this week. The sun was shining and there wasn't a cloud in the sky as Jo delivered her pre-run briefing.

This week 180 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 24 were first timers and 53 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 21 different clubs took part.

Wyreforestparkrun08042017

Wyreforestparkrun08042017

We had a tourist visiting us from Coventry parkrun - David MOYES (no not that one!) who completed his milestone 50th parkrun on his first visit here. Hope you enjoyed it here :)

We also welcomed the following first time parkrunners to Wyre Forest and congratulate them on the first step on their parkrun journey:

Mark EVERALL, Phil DOWNES, Steven SCREEN, Debra DOWNES, Casey CHILDE, Debbie TURNER, Evie JOHNSON, Michelle JONES, Tara PAYTON, Charlotte PARKER, Paula PARKER, Lucy HARRIS

The event was made possible by 24 volunteers, thank you one and all:

Wyreforestparkrun08042017

The results took a little longer than usual to process this week as we have a couple of 'double crossers'. Please remember to 'only cross the finish line once' as it is near impossible for our volunteers to remember who has already crossed. It creates a real headache to sort out afterwards and could mean our results are wrong.

Speaking of results, we also need you all to remember your paper barcodes if you want an official time and run credit. Please remember that we don't scan phones (they don't work) and we don't add in results afterwards unless you have a genuine barcode that won't scan. I've said it before - please put spare barcodes in your car, wallet, phone case, under shoe insole....anywhere you can think of! Sometimes our volunteer has to wait until they get home to process the results (the internet in the café is patchy at best!) and they want to get on with the rest of their weekend as quickly as possible (just like you!) so lets make it easy for them - thank you.

See you next time! #dfyb
