Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 112
14th October 2017
This week 195 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 24 were first timers and 27 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 21 different clubs took part.

We welcomed tourists from Wolverhampton, Worcester, Peterborough, Lancaster, Mile End and France!
Huge congratulations and bucket loads of kudos to the fabulous kids from TriEnergy who joined us this week - many of them doing their first 5k parkrun. It was great to see so many of them enjoying themselves which is exactly what it's all about!
And we wished 'Happy 50th Birthday' to the lovely Rachael SHEPHERD - a Wyre Forest regular runner and volunteer. Rachael was presented with a Wyre Forest parkrun apricot shirt for her birthday from friend Vanessa HUGHES. A perfect gift for a perfect occasion! Well done ladies.

As you may have realised - we had a problem with one of our scanning units on Saturday. We are still unclear as to what went wrong but it seemed to have doubled up some runners and totally missed others... as a technophobe I can't work out what happened but hopefully it won't happen again as we've had to manually input all the missing results!
Needless to say that if you still haven't received your result - please get in touch with your (approximate if not sure) time/position and barcode number. We don't want you to lose a credit for your run so we will add it in for you. Thanks to everyone for your time and patience whilst we sorted this out.
On a personal note - we love to see our core team runners actually running at parkrun rather than volunteering so congratulations to Run Director Jo WATSON on being first female finisher this week! It doesn't matter where you finish in parkrun as long as you finish but Jo knocked over a minute off her PB so we are pretty proud of her!

We had a lovely full roster this week which meant that Jo was able to run and it would be good if this could continue for the future. Please don't leave volunteering to the same people each week, we only ask you to do it now and again - if everyone did this our roster would be full weeks in advance and my job would be much easier.
If you know someone who is nervous about volunteering, what about bringing them along with you? It really is very simple (even when gremlins get in the scanners!) and we will make them feel very welcome.

Some of you will have taken part in the Birmingham International marathon and the Great Birmingham Run (half marathon) on Sunday - we truly hope you all got the results you wanted! We were thrilled to hear that our Course Record holder William RICHARDSON finished in first place in the Great Birmingham Run and his sister Chloe was first female!! We are so pleased and proud - Congratulations from all your friends and parkrun family at Wyre Forest.

Finally - a couple of friendly reminders about under 11s and dogs! Under 11s MUST be within arms reach of an adult at all times - this means that if we check the results they will be next to an adult in the results too! We have the right to remove unaccompanied Under 11s from the results - clearly this is not something we want to do so please keep up with them or hold them back. Thank you.
And dogs must be kept under control at all times during the run - one dog per runner on a short leash. This also applies around the finish funnel area please where we have lots going on and lots of people tired and trying to get their breath back. Once you have finished your run it would help us if dogs were taken away from the finish funnel area where space is somewhat restricted and the volunteer team are concentrating on accurate results recording - I hope that makes sense.
And finally - a heads up! There have been a few parking tickets issued recently (including to some of our volunteers sadly). A valid parking ticket must be shown or you run the risk of getting a parking fine. The Forestry Commission really want you to support the forest and buy the discovery pass. It's £30 per year and you can put two registration numbers on it so it's a no brainer for regular runners. There are plans afoot to set up a 'customer service point' in the near future which will mean no queuing in the café to buy passes/trail maps etc. The sale of discovery passes and parking charges help pay for this and other developments in the forest.
Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Wyre Forest parkrun Results Page.
