It was a very chilly run this week so thanks to all those amazing volunteers once again.

So where do I start with this week's run report? We had several important milestones and three big birthdays to celebrate this week. Cake, balloons and fancy dress were in abundance!

I think we should start with our oldest EVER parkrunner - the local (Wolverley) legend that is Lindsay B PULLEY. Lindsay turned 80 this Saturday and despite partying the night before with his Cleobury Running Club friends, he and several of them turned up (some more bleary eyed than others) to join Lindsay and his son Nick (home parkrun Rushcliffe) on his 225th parkrun.

DSC_1901

Lindsay is of course very well known in the local running community as the man who founded Amazing Feet Running Club (Kidderminster) and has then ran for Dudley Kingswinford and Midland Masters AC before recently joining CMRC.

At 80, Lindsay becomes an Age Category Record holder at Wyre Forest with his time of 35:24. He was just jogging so he will no doubt beat his own record when he next tries!

At the other end of the age scale we also celebrated Adam SCURRELL's 16th Birthday! And Adam was also running his 100th parkrun - a milestone he shared with mum MICHELLE (Shelly)! I said it was a busy week....! Congratulations Adam and Shelly (of Tri Energy) and thank you for all the volunteering you do too.

Untitled

Matthew BAILEY was also running his 100th parkrun this week - he joined Lindsay and his CMRC club mates to complete his milestone in a more leisurely fashion than usual (Matt is no stranger to the P001 token!) and thanks to wife ROWAN we all enjoyed some delicious cakes afterwards! Congratulations Matt.

Next up was another Wyre Forest regular Tony COLCLOUGH (aka Frosty) of the Wyre Forest Hash House Harriers - he was also running his 100th parkrun and his club mates carried on their usual tradition with a themed parkrun - this week FLAMINGOES!

Congratulations also to junior Daniel WALLIS who completed his 10th parkrun, Jemima SHELDON and Mark SHELDON who ran their 50th parkruns and our lovely Debbie HYRONS (token sorter extraordinaire!) who also ran her 50th parkrun as volunteer sign collector.

We also wished a Happy 65th Birthday to camera shy Chris HANCOX!

I really hope I haven't missed anyone!

And finally - I couldn't resist sharing this photograph! Titled "When you manage to beat the course record holder over 100m dressed as a flamingo"! Thank you Mark WALLACE for this classic moment and to photographer Gav MILLICHIP for capturing it perfectly!

It's going to be hard to top all these celebrations but I'm sure you'll all help us try as we celebrate Christmas this week with our usual festive fancy dress parkrun. We will bring cakes and music, we just need you to bring the fun! Oh and your barcodes too of course!

See you there
Andie

20/10/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun #162 Aneka’s Run Report

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 162
20th October 2018

This week 231 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 27 were first timers and 37 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 21 different clubs took part.

DSC_1693

Aneka GUEST was amongst the 231 finishers and I think her run report is one of the best ones we've ever had - hope you enjoy it too!!

My name is Aneka Guest and I am 10 years old. Today I helped my mum do the Post Close Down which means you pick up all the signs showing people which way to go and how many k's they have run. I don't run very often but my sister Sasha runs and today she ran in 32.46 minutes. My dad Keith GUEST could not catch her up and ran in 33.42. He will have to stop eating the Christmas cakes he keeps making if he wants to beat her!!!

DSC_1677
Photo: Aneka and Mum Maria

Today we saw a sad incident. Eloise (who I know) and her cousin were running with their parents when a dog off a lead ran over to a dog on a lead. The dog off the lead then caused the cousin to fall over and hurt himself. The cousin is only about seven years old. He was crying. Anyway he managed to carry on running after a bit of support. Eloise PARMENTER managed to carry on running and got a time of 36.26 which I thought was good considering she was upset and had stopped for ages.

My uncle Tony JUDGE loves the parkrun but he has suffered a leg injury and has only just got back into it. He got a time of 31.48.

Lee ASHTON is doing his 50th run next week but quite a few of his friends won't be there because of the holidays. Lee's son Oscar ASHTON was running well too. Oscar ran with his grandmother. Three generations is so nice.

DSC_1714
Photo: Lee who celebrates his 50th parkrun next week

Peter CARTWRIGHT you are getting better all the time even though you eat a lot of cake. Will any of your friends catch you up. I think Lee Ashton is trying.

DSC_1645

Jacqueline SUTTON, my mum loved running with you a few weeks ago because you got her a new PB. You always look nice when you are running.

Mum saw lots of friends from her cycle club - Gill JONES, Debbie HYRONS, Luan WALL and her daughter Eleanor WALL, Sandra HOWARD and her daughter Florence HOWARD. Mum says if anyone is interested they cycle on Wednesday mornings from 9.30 - 11.30 at Stourport Cycle Club. Also well done to Gill JONES and Debbie HYRONS for another P.B.

DSC_1747

The people in red dresses looked great but not sure who they were ; maybe Cleobury Mortimer Running Club? (They were in fact the Wyre Forest Hash House Harriers celebrating Fiona STARKIE's 100th parkrun and Debbie JACKSON's 50th parkrun - well done girls! - Andie)

There was a big crowd walking with the Tail Walkers today which was quite good fun.

I hope you enjoyed my Run Report.

Aneka Guest

Well I certainly did - I was with my 9 year old and 7 year old daughters at the back of the parkrun today with Aneka and her Mum and enjoyed it immensely!!

Congratulations also to Terry (Tez) BLUNN who also ran his milestone 50th parkrun this week.

Just a reminder for you all that this Saturday coming (October 27th) is our Halloween themed parkrun so please dig out those costumes again. It's one of the highlights of the parkrun calendar here at Wyre Forest and we've seen some super scary sights over the last few years!

halloween parkrun1

And a kind reminder before I sign off that if you wish to receive an official time for your parkrun that you must bring your barcode. It is unfair to ask (or pressure) volunteers to add your result in afterwards. Once you have finished your parkrun we then have to process the results and adding numbers in manually takes up time (particularly when the parkrun results server is at capacity at 10am!) and can be a slow process. We want to get on with our weekend too. No one at Wyre Forest parkrun is paid, and we love doing what we do but all we ask is that you bring your official parkrun barcode to make things easy for us. Thank you.

28/07/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun #150 A touch of glamour for a Saturday morning!

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 150
28th July 2018

This week 217 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 33 were first timers and 36 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 30 different clubs took part.

Here are the names of our marvellous first time parkrunners:

Lloyd WRIGHT, Billy HARLEY, Simon PUGH, William BEARD, Sarah PUGH, Francesca HALL, Ade CALDWELL, Martin GREAVES, Edward LUPTON, Toby GITTENS, Tamzin RICHARDSON

Well done all of you, you now have a PB to beat!

The event was made possible by 23 fantastic volunteers:

Vicky HONEYBOURNE • Adam HARRIS • Julie GOLDS • Mark WALLACE • Julie WIDDOWSON • Andrew T DAVIES • Joanne WATSON • Jake GOOD • Lisa BAILEY • Andrew GARLICK • Katy BROOME • Carole EVANS • Lisa BIGGS • Martin BIGGS • Sandra PEDERSEN • Lindsay TILLSLEY • Gavin MILLICHIP • Sara HARRIS • Rachael SHEPHERD • Michelle BRIGGS • Stuart BIRD • Gill JONES • Steve REDDING

Thank you all - there is no parkrun without volunteers. Have you tried it yet? Please get in touch at wyreforesthelpers@parkrun.com and let some of our regular volunteers have a go at running too!

There were some memorable milestones this week among some of our loyal Wyre Forest parkrunners and volunteers. Huge congratulations to our favourite mini-marshal Ryan MORGAN who ran his 10th parkrun and to the following, huge kudos on your 100th parkruns: Thomas PALMER (of local Kidderminster and Stourport Athletics Club), Heather MORGAN (Cleobury Mortimer RC and WFHHH) and Graeme ANDERSON (one of our RDs and member of WFHHH).

Graeme and Heather chose a theme of 'red dresses' for their 100th which many more of you embraced! I will let the photographs speak for themselves!

An Age Category Record was claimed this week by the super speedy Fred SMITH of Wolverhampton and Bilston AC who visited us for the first time. The record for VM70-74 now stands at a very impressive 25:09 if any of you chaps fancy beating it?!

Please note that this week, the parking machines at the Forestry were finally upgraded and prices have gone up to £3 for 1 hour (full charges are below). We appreciate that this is frustrating but we are volunteers (paying to park ourselves!) and would prefer that any dissatisfaction is NOT directed at us and that you contact the FC directly with your feedback.

On the same note, please try to avoid parking near to local residents homes. This will create stress to our neighbours who will also take their annoyance out on our volunteers.

If you are a regular parkrunner we really urge you to purchase a Discovery Pass. It is £30 for a year so if you manage to run every week that is just 58p. If you share the cost with another driver (you can add two registration numbers on to the pass) then that is even greater value for money. It also entitles you to discounts at the café and in GoApe (Ts&Cs apply) and you can come and visit whenever you like and support the valuable work that the FC are doing. I know that I can not speak for everyone but I for one truly appreciate how blessed we are to be able to parkrun here each week (and your parkrun itself is absolutely free don't forget!) in such beautiful surroundings and with the use of pre and post-run facilities (some parkruns don't even have toilets available!)

This Saturday sees our favourite photographer celebrate not one but TWO milestones and we welcome a new Run Director to our team! Who will it be?? Come along and see - and don't forget your barcodes!

Keep parkrunning
Andie

24/02/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun report #129 Hats on – it’s Daren’s 50th

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 129
24th February 2018

This week 160 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 17 were first timers and 31 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 22 different clubs took part.

It was another chilly morning so we had just 6 new parkrunners today but congrats to them all!:

Tyler FORSYTH, Louise ANDREWS, Margo QUIGLEY, Martin QUIGLEY, Chris PRIEST, Charlotte PRIEST

Wyre Forest parkrun 24012018

The event was made possible by 28 hardy volunteers:

Wayne SMITH • Andrea FORD • Lisa BAILEY • Adrian FORD • David STARKIE • Andrew GARLICK • Dale EVANS • Duncan STARKIE • Carole EVANS • Lisa GARLICK • Matt KIMBER • Graeme ANDERSON • Ann CHADWICK • Rosie CHADWICK • Lauren CHADWICK • Tom ANDERSON • Sandra PEDERSEN • John FRANCIS • David FISH • Paul ROBERTS • Jennet ROBERTS • Lewis GRANT • Ellie ANDERSON • Paul SCURRELL • Ryan MORGAN • Pauline SMITH • James PAYTON • Debbie REDDING

It may have been cold but Lauren and Rosie CHADWICK showed us how to keep warm when marshalling with this fab photo taken by mum Annie:

Love it!

Thank you once again to all our volunteers for giving up their warm beds to keep the parkrun operating smoothly. Without them we would not be here and we are so very grateful to them all.

We celebrated with Daren JACKSON this week as he ran his 50th parkrun. Daren is a regular volunteer as well as runner and he and his friends wore hats for his milestone run. Fellow Wyre Forest Hash House Harriers are always first to embrace a celebration or themed run and got in to the spirit of things accordingly! Well done to all involved.

Now the weather for next weekend is not currently looking good with snow forecast unfortunately. As you know, it's pretty high up by the visitor centre and if there is snow there is a strong chance of cancellation unfortunately as the car park can not be made safe. As happened last time we had severe bad weather we will try to let you know in as far in advance as possible should we need to cancel the parkrun. Watch this space and also keep an eye on our facebook page for updates.

If the run does go ahead on Saturday (and please keep your fingers crossed!) it will be our youngest marshal Ryan MORGAN's milestone 25th time as a volunteer. Ryan has also chosen a theme and as it's World Book Day this week he has gone with 'Book characters'! So that should give you all plenty of scope to get a costume or props together! Really hoping we can go ahead on Saturday but if not, we will just postpone it. Again, watch this space!

Today's full results and a complete event history can be found on the Wyre Forest parkrun Results Page.

The female record is held by Bryony HAINES who recorded a time of 17:54 on 14th May 2016 (event number 38).
The male record is held by William RICHARDSON who recorded a time of 15:58 on 21st October 2017 (event number 113).
The Age Grade course record is held by Bryony HAINES who recorded 83.61% (17:54) on 14th May 2016 (event number 38).

Wyre Forest parkrun started on 29th August 2015. Since then 4,114 participants have completed 21,163 parkruns covering a total distance of 105,815 km, including 4,507 new Personal Bests.

13/01/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun #123 Oh no it isn’t! Oh yes it is!

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 123
13th January 2018

This week we had our first club 'takeover' of 2018 with the brilliantly bonkers Wyre Forest Hash House Harriers taking over the volunteer roster. It was a fabulous morning so thank you to them all for giving up their time and allowing the core team a lovely morning off! We can't wait for the next one!

Thank you to them all:

Rachel ROBINSON • Kimberley BILLS • Julie GOLDS • Richard SHELDON • Mark WALLACE • Philip SHELDON • Michael GAUNT • David STARKIE • Duncan STARKIE • Emma TIPTON • Michael MOCKETT • Graeme ANDERSON • Ann CHADWICK • Rosie CHADWICK • Lauren CHADWICK • Tom ANDERSON • Heather MORGAN • Ellie HOOPER • Emma PAINE • Tony COLCLOUGH • Chris STAPLES • Neil COLLINS • Daren JACKSON • Matt JACKSON • Debbie JACKSON • Matthew KNIGHT

Julie GOLDS was in charge of the run report and here it is, thank you Julie:

Possibly #thebestparkrunever Panto themed takeover was extremely well attended by both volunteers and runners with 262 running the beautiful Wyre Forest single lap, flat, hilly, dippy, muddy, foresty course.

Big thank you to Emma Louise Rhiannon PAINE tailwalker along with Neil COLLINS, for supplying many of the costumes on show today from The Monday Night Group in Stourport. Please come along and support the pantomime Aladdin, showing Jan 26th til Feb 3rd. A fab way to support this charitable organisation.

Celebrating milestone 50th parkruns were Jules WALL and Anna WEBER. 1st male over the finish line was course record holder, William RICHARDSON, 1st female was a visitor running canicross Natasha SUSNICK in 3rd place overall, well done that woman.

Special mention to our Event Director Andie FORD, awarded Unsung Hero award earlier this week by Wyre Forest District Council, so very well deserved for all she does, we salute you Andie, (who by the way, ran a rare parkrun herself in a not too shabby time of 35.31).

Untitled

Congratulations to all who crossed the finish line, especially Captain Hook, Snow White, Sad Sailor Boy volunteer Tony COLCLOUGH, Frosty to those in the know, newly named Anything, Emma JACKSON (sorry, Hashers in-joke), Mark WALLACE aka Dr Whiplash who wore a very clever "You're Behind Me" tshirt, also for his most excellent results processing, and others too numerous to mention.

DSC_1139

*Edited to add, Dr Whiplash aka Mark WALLACE also achieved his own milestone this week as he gained his volunteer25 purple t-shirt. Thanks you Mark and congratulations!*

As usual, Hash House Harriers love to dress up, none more so than RD extraordinaire Graeme ANDERSON, Funnel Director Phil SHELDON and First Timer Talk host Daren JACKSON, who as far as we know, is still giving said First Timers Talk.....

Lots of fun was had today, despite the chilly conditions, especially when in fancy dress, one absolutely cannot cover up a costume with a coat!! It's just not the done thing. Some of us could have been wearing a tad more clothing, mentioning no names (nudge nudge Graeme) but we all had fun trying to stay warm. Political Correctness dictates that I cannot possibly go into detail. Young eyes and ears...... Say No More.

DSC_1191

Thank you Wyre Forest parkrun for allowing us to have so much fun this morning whilst doing a very important job, in record time I might add!! Results out by 10.30 Cheers one and all, we did good (Oh No You Didn't!!)

Here are the names of the amazing people who ran their first parkrun with us this weekend:

Neil COLLINS, Carla RUSHBROOK, Lynn WILLIAMS, Joanna BRADLEY, Juliet FOX, Ryan CYHANCHUK, Emily GAUNT, Katharine HAMER, Catherine WILLIAMS, Erica SIMPSON, Rebecca FLEMING, Joe GREEN, Gareth CROWDER, Saul CLEWITT, Chris FOX, Miroslaw FUJAK, Ben HOLE, Matt LANGE, John ALTON

Well done all!

Please support your local parkrun by volunteering every now and again. It's easy and fun! We meet at 8.30am and most roles can be fulfilled by 11am at the very latest! Contact us at wyreforesthelpers@parkrun.com to get on the roster. Thank you.

We have some extra special people to recognise as usual.

Firstly well done to Donna PERRY of Cleobury Mortimer Running Club who completed her 50th parkrun just before celebrating her birthday this week.

Lucy BROOKS of Bridgnorth Running Club made it to 100 parkruns this Saturday! As did I - though mine were the much easier sort - volunteering! Well done Lucy.

And we thanked Lisa BAILEY for volunteering on 50 separate occasions and said a sad farewell to Ann WEBBER who heads back home to Australia very soon (via Europe). We will miss you Ann and hope you come back and visit us in the future.

The Wyre Forest Hash House Harriers are in charge of proceedings this weekend and they have a theme - panto! You may remember that we had to cancel back in December due to heavy snowfall so we had to postpone the Hashers volunteer takeover until this weekend. But I know that we will all get in to the spirit of things regardless. Oh yes we will....!

See you on Saturday!

Last Saturday I volunteered for the role of Run Director. Not a role I would normally volunteer for but one that I am really happy to have done. I would like to thank the core team for their help & assistance over the last couple of weeks as they trained me for the role & a big THANK YOU to Andie FORD for her advice & help.

After being terrified by doing the run brief with lots of announcements (only forgot one) the parkrun itself passed without incident. Timekeepers were spot on & I don't think there were any missed scans so thank you to you guys.

*The announcement I missed was for the parkrun on the 9th December which is a club take over by Wyre forest hash house harriers & their theme is panto. So expect a colourful & fun parkrun. *EDIT: check the weather reports - snow is forecast - sadly, we may have to cancel this :-(

Once again a thank you from me to all the volunteers & I will be RD'ing again.

Thanks - Mark.

25/11/2017 Wyre Forest parkrun #118 Awesome Andy volunteers for the 100th time

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 118
25th November 2017

This week 242 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 48 were first timers and 31 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 26 different clubs took part.

We welcomed tourists from Bournemouth, Yorkshire and Worcester this week. Lots of Worcester Black Pear Joggers were participating as part of their club championships - we hope the course proved a success for you all!

The event was made possible by 23 volunteers:

Nigel GARDNER • Mark WALLACE • Andrea FORD • Andrew T DAVIES • Lisa BAILEY • Mark REAVES • Adrian FORD • David STARKIE • Andrew GARLICK • Duncan STARKIE • Carole EVANS • Martin BIGGS • Lisa GARLICK • Andy MORGAN • Tom ANDERSON • Tina SMITH • Pete SMITH • John FRANCIS • Ian BELL • Pauline SMITH • Matt JACKSON • Debbie JACKSON • James PAYTON

We said a special 'thank you' to our awesome Andy GARLICK who this week volunteered for the 100th time! He is the first of our core team to reach this amazing milestone. There are no more official milestone clubs after 25 for volunteers (or free t-shirts!) but I still think this deserves a special mention. Without regular volunteers like Andy we really wouldn't have a parkrun - Andy was one of our founding members from Cleobury Mortimer Running Club and we are incredibly grateful to him for all the time he puts in.

AndyG
Photo: Our awesome Andy G!

And another important volunteer also reached an official milestone as Nigel GARDNER joined the Volunteer25 Club. thank you Nigel for all the time you give to help us out!

And Ruby THOMAS joined the Junior10 Club this week so will soon be sporting a special white 10 t-shirt! Well done Ruby!

Well done to this week's fantastic first timers!:

Ollie OLIVER, Tom BENTLEY, Sam BURR, Steve HINE, Edward WESTBURY, Nathan FITTER, Gary FITTER, Richard CANNON, Nina FINCH, Joseph HADLEY, Alex HADLEY, Katie PICKERSGILL, Mark PICKERSGILL, Eve HADLEY, Paul HADLEY, Alanie PARFITT

Some dates for your diary:
On December 9th the Wyre Forest Hash House Harriers (the drinking club with a running problem!) will be doing a full volunteer takeover! And they have a theme (of course!) which is 'Panto'. Oh no it isn't......Oh yes it is! Etc....! Sounds like brilliant fun so please join in!

Then on the following Saturday we will be collecting items to donate to Kidderminster Foodbank. Obviously this is a fabulous time of year for many of us but we mustn't forget that sadly, some families in the area are not so lucky.

foodbank

The sort of items that we'd appreciate are long life items - cans, jars, UHT milk, juice in cartons, tinned fruit, toiletries, washing powder etc. and it would also be nice to include some Christmas items where possible (sweets, chocolates, Christmas puddings etc.) A volunteer from the foodbank has offered to come and collect the items on that date (16th December) and to thank us - so lets make it a large collection! thanks all.

Saturday 23rd December will be our final parkrun before Christmas and a big celebration! So lets get those Santa suits, reindeer ankler headbands and tinsel garlands out and make it a sparkly spectacular! Cakes and mince pies are also very welcome!!

And of course as well as all that - Don't forget your Barcode!

Thank you all for continuing to support our wonderful parkrun and make it the amazing event that it is.

See you on Saturday!

20/05/2017 Wyre Forest parkrun #91 Alison’s run report

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 91
20th May 2017

This week's run report has been kindly written by Alison KING. Alison is in the UK for a year and is the founder of Puarenga parkrun in Rotorua, New Zealand! Please read, like and share her fab report thank you all!

"I seem to have chosen fairly easy parkruns to visit in the past. My very first parkrun at Barry Curtis in Auckland, New Zealand, was mostly flat.

The one I set up in Rotorua (Puarenga) was flatter still:

20170218-_MG_0696Photo: The site of Puarenga parkrun!

My current home run at Stratford-upon-Avon is flat, and the others I've visited? Well you don't get much flatter than Norwich, Poole, Bushy and Evesham.

So when I was told Wyre Forest was a little bit lumpy I knew I would be in for a challenge. I'm not averse to hilly courses. All my running in Rotorua was on the hills, it's just that when it comes to parkrun, well let's just say I like to run flat and fast.

We weren't sure we'd get a run in this Saturday - when we arrived at 8.15 we found a queue outside the entrance. The gates were locked. Luckily they were opened by 8.30 (by a sheepish looking Forestry Commission guy) and we joined the traffic jam into the centre.

My five-year-old son and husband had already walked in to look for the Gruffalo (the parkrun activity). They had found him by the time we were parked up. We brought my mum, who took up parkrun a month before her 67th birthday. She wasn't looking forward to the hills either, as she is usually joined by the tail runner.

This run wouldn't be an exception. Those hills! Well you regulars know all about them. You've probably got your own names for them all too - I was already told about Cardiac Hill (how cruel to have a hill at the end! No sprint finish for me!)

DSC_0204
Photo: Yes, the locals call it 'Cardiac Hill'...

I ran about the time I expected - 35:07. Only four minutes slower than last week's effort. I didn't walk and I passed others uphill - a win for me.

Wyreforestparkrun20052017bananas

Mum finished with the tail-running bananas. A first for her to be accompanied by runners in fancy dress - she loved it, so thank you.

I loved being among the forest. Rotorua is home to the Whakarewarewa (pronounced fa-ka-re-wa-re-wa) Forest and I'd run on forestry roads and trails regularly. The trees are different of course - ours are pine, gum and NZ natives.

Thank you everyone for your hospitality - particularly to Mark who ran his 50th parkrun at Stratford last week and who let me know how awesome your home is. We will be back!"

Alison King A2147564

Thanks for a fabulous report Alison. In case you're all wondering, Alsion's friend Mark is Mark REAVES and although Mark ran his 50th parkrun at Stratford a couple of week's ago he will be running his 50th Wyre Forest parkrun next week!

But celebrating his actual 50th parkrun this week was Chris STAPLES of the Wyre Forest Hash House Harriers. We didn't insist that Chris dress up as a banana to tailrun - he did it with his own free will but thank you anyway!!

This week 186 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 42 were first timers and 38 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 19 different clubs took part.

Many of you will know volunteer Gavin MILLICHIP as the man behind the camera most weeks (when he's not running!) Gavin earned his volunteer '25' t-shirt this week (though he either didn't realise or didn't want to tell us!) so Congratulations to Gav and a big thank you from everyone single one of us for all the fabulous photos he's taken over the weeks. Flickr (link at the bottom) is not the quickest or easiest site to use so I'm particularly grateful to Gav for taking the time to do this for us.

Great running everyone - see you all next week!

18/03/2017 Wyre Forest parkrun#82 The hashers take over….

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 82
18th March 2017

This week's Run Report has been written by Helen HIPKISS aka 'Hot Lips' of the Wyre Forest Hash House Harriers! Read and enjoy what is possibly the most bonkers Run Report ever!

"A lovely chilly but sunny morning for the WFH3 takeover. Probably a few St Patrick's Day hangovers but we were all up bright and early none the less. An abundance of bright & crazy leggings (even some gold ones!), tutus, hash t-shirts & hats and even a new WFH3 flag to mark the occasion! Brilliantly inspired - well done Plays With IT!

WyreForestparkrun18032017Photo: the Run Briefing

WyreForestparkrun18032017
Photo: The new flag!

Cross Dresser, today's run director, sounded the megaphone, read out all the announcements and gave today's instructions. He also plugged WFH3 to try & drum up some freshers into our fold - one man's ears pricked up when he heard we were a drinking club with a running problem...

WyreForestparkrun18032017
Photo: RD Graeme aka Cross Dresser

Clodhopper shouted the starting countdown and they were off, off up that hill. No flour or sawdust to follow but plenty of arrows and marshals instead. Many hashers were already in their marshalling positions but there were some photo opportunities for those of us with positions near or at the finish line.

WyreForestparkrun18032017
Photo: They couldn't resist using a bit of flour...

Wrong found a bench to sit on whilst Plays With IT erected another flag. I took my hashlings up the hill to wait in prime position at the 'final corner' of the track. How we love cheering and clapping the runners, telling them "almost there!" "Not far to go now!" and "a bit of downhill next!"

Now, the only rule of hashing is that there are no rules and this became very apparent when Compost was about to cause chaos by trying to direct the front running male straight up the path at M9. We also tried to coerce a non parkrunner to go & cross the finish line at about 10 past 9 - she would have really broken a record! Hehehehe.

And so, 171 runners ran past. We probably brought 170 hashing volunteers! The front runners (or FRBs as they're affectionately termed on a Thursday night), the dog runners, the cyclist (!), the birthday party, Rupert the Bear (it almost could be a Thursday night!), the runners, joggers and walkers, parkrunners young and old (just like hashing too) We like to think we were the best marshals. (I'm certain the rest of the marshals did a fantastic job too!)

Tail runner, Jacqui, was appropriately dressed for the occasion. She had a group of minders in her midst too but commented on what a privilege and pleasure it was to run with Max and Lindsay.

WyreForestparkrun18032017

An overwhelming WFH3 welcome committee back at the finish line with loud cheers and whooping and our trademark sweets handed out to everyone by DF - a nice little touch. Everyone was expertly managed in the funnel by Pond Life, timed by Darth Radar & Clodhopper, given tokens by Hash Quack and Game Bird, scanned by Cyclopath & Dr Whiplash before heading off to the On Inn for cake & coffee. Perfect start to the weekend
