10/03/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun #130 Pershore Plum Plodders turn the forest purple

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 130
10th March 2018

It was great to be back after last week's 'Beast from the East' forced cancellation. This is what the forest looked like last Saturday!:

DSC_0620

Very beautiful but unfortunately (but sensibly) the site was closed by the Forestry Commission due to the amber warning in place.

We got back to normal this week and 189 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 44 were first timers and 21 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 18 different clubs took part.

We were particularly well attended by several members of the Pershore Plum Plodders who are touring some local parkruns at the moment. Great to have you with us guys!

Trevor CLARK took some fabulous photographs which appear here: Flickr

And marshal Gavin MILLICHIP was snapping away as usual and added his photographs to our official Flickr page (link at the bottom) including this fabulous photo of a deer that he spotted on his way to his marshal post:

There were lots of first timers this week - Carole was inundated at the 'first timers and tourists briefing'!

We must give a mention to the awesome Christine SEDMAN-SMITH who broke the Age Category Record for VW7-74 this weekend in an outstanding time (and PB) of 26:49!! I know many of us would be proud of this time but to put it into context, this is an age grading of 83.03%. That makes Christine the third 'fastest' finisher at Wyre Forest if we were to base results on age - just behind Will and Bryony - our male and female Course Record holders! There are no barriers to participation at parkrun, and no barriers to performance either. Well done Christine.

Don't forget that next week is our themed run for volunteer Ryan's 25th. The theme is 'Books' so lets see what you can do with that Wyre Foresters!

Til next time,
Andie

27/01/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun – Ian and Carole’s 50th (and Jasper the dog’s 45th!)

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 125
27th January 2018

This week 173 people ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 27 were first timers and 33 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 24 different clubs took part.

We welcomed tourists from Shipley, Cheltenham, Arrow Valley, Kingsway, Burnham and Highbridge, Tewkesbury and Dudley. We hope you enjoyed your visit to the Wyre Forest.

Our 'parkrun stars' this week were Tri Energy members Ian BELL and Carole HENDER who both ran their 50th parkruns. We are told that their dog Jasper has 'only' done 45 parkruns so he made up for it by running back to cross the finish line with both his owners! We will let you off for crossing the finish line twice just once Jasper! Well done to you all and thank you for all your generosity when volunteering on many an occasion too.

20/01/2018 Wyre Forest parkrun #124 Rob and Bill turn 100 (parkruns that is..)

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 124
20th January 2018

Well lets be honest, the weather was pretty grim this week with freezing rain and fog. The course was both muddy and icy in places. But it didn't deter 193 people who ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 10 were first timers and 32 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 26 different clubs took part.

Untitled

The event was made possible by 25 generous volunteers who were incredibly hardy turning up to support the runners in this terrible weather. I can not thank them enough. They really are our 'heroes in hi-viz':

Kim HOOD • Andrea FORD • Andrew T DAVIES • Adrian FORD • Carole EVANS • Lisa BIGGS • Martin BIGGS • Matt KIMBER • Andy MORGAN • Graeme ANDERSON • Ann CHADWICK • Rosie CHADWICK • Lauren CHADWICK • Lindsay TILLSLEY • John FRANCIS • Vanessa HUGHES • David FISH • Sara HARRIS • Carl PRICE • Molly MATHEWS • Pauline SMITH • Debbie JACKSON • Sandra HOWARD • Florence HOWARD • James PAYTON

Wyre Forest parkrun is ran entirely by volunteers and we urge you all to take your turn and give it a go. It's easy, rewarding and fun. Get in touch at wyreforesthelpers@parkrun.com and give something back. Thank you.

These were today's amazing first timers who ignored the awful weather to start their parkrun journey:

Lee WILSON, Louise MAY, Damon GARIFF, Suzanne EVANS, Charlie BRIDGE

Well done to all of them!

Two talented junior parkrunners earned their 10 t-shirt this weekend - top runs from Dan PERRY and Grace SMITH - well done.

Phil WEBER earned his milestone 50 honours whilst parkrunning as part of his Amazing Feet RC club championship. Well done Phil.

And what can we say about the newest member of the parkrun 100 club Rob REYNOLDS!? Rob is a popular member of the local running community representing both Amazing Feet and Tri-Energy (and probably several other clubs too) and he is incredibly supportive to his fellow parkrunners particularly newcomers (with his own unique form of banter!)

Untitled
Photo: Our very own Rob Reynolds before he started causing chaos with his balloon...

There are no official clubs for volunteers once they surpass 25 parkruns but we think they deserve the same kudos - if not more. None more so that our longest serving marshal Martin 'Bill' BIGGS. Bill also reached 100 parkruns this Saturday and he is well known at marshal point 5 (about half way), 'Bills Logs' is named after him, though the logs may have moved on! He is there nearly every week cheering everyone on in all weathers - always in his shorts! We are incredibly grateful for your help and support from day 1 - thank you Bill.

Untitled
Photo: Its not properly cold 'til Bill covers his legs!

And I personally welcomed a visitor from Porthcawl parkrun. Chris PRATT called by on his way to the National Running Show and was suitably impressed with our lovely hills and open, quiet course. Chris is a parkrun RD himself and says he will return with more runners from Ogmore Phoenix Running Club in the future and we look forward to welcoming them all too.

29/04/2017 Wyre Forest parkrun #88 Question: What does a Bridegroom have in common with a sheep, rabbit, duck and raccoon? To find out…read on!

Wyre Forest parkrun
Event number 88
29th April 2017

I really don't know where to start with this week's run report there was so much happening this week! So lets kick off with saying well done to all our first timers this week:

Brett FOX, Craig HARDIMAN, Tristan REAVES, Grace SMITH, Amy SMITH, Ian DOWLING, Matt JACKSON, Sally RUMLEY, Daniel EDWARDS, Sandra HILL, Jennifer CLEE, Louise CUSACK, Darcey BETHELL, Amanda BILLS, Yvette BARTHOLEMEW, Sally DOWLING, Mark RAYNER, Heidi WORTH, Nicky GALE, Rose BISHOP, Pauline SMITH

#wyreforestparkrun29042017

Congratulations to all of you.

I was made aware prior to this Saturday that we would be expecting some special guests this week. Rose BISHOP (the Chair of Wyre Forest District Council) and Mary RAYNOR (the Mayor of Kidderminster) would be joining us to complete their first ever parkrun in aid of two local charities (Kidderminster Hospital League of Friends and Kidderminster and District Youth Trust).

What I wasn't told was that they would be doing it dressed as a sheep and a rabbit! Joined by a very well dressed duck and raccoon they were a cheering sight at 8.30am on a Saturday morning!

18157260_10211311190228868_1664883100476354460_n

The good news kept on coming though. Volunteer Carole EVANS told us that she'd met a man in a sauna during the week (we will say no more about this....) and persuaded him and his friend (visiting from Texas) to also partake in their first ever parkrun. We hope the invitation didn't disappoint and you both enjoyed the run.

And just as I though the morning shout-outs couldn't get any more bizarre I was told that Daniel EDWARDS was always doing his first ever parkrun this morning. Wonderful I thought - good for you Dan! But then "And he's getting married this afternoon!"

Now, correct me if I'm wrong but I'm not sure I'd choose the morning of my wedding to try out a new particularly challenging 5k run! Would I have let my husband to be do such a risky thing??!! Did 'Mrs Edwards to be' even know??!

Of course I am totally over reacting here but I must admit I was watching the finish line nervously to make sure Dan crossed it in one piece! Looking back now of course, if I'd had the chance and time to parkrun on my big day I'm almost certain I would have done the same so well done Dan and Congratulations. All of us at Wyre Forest parkrun wish you lots of love and happiness for the future (and many PBs too of course).

We also had some fabulous London Marathon finishers running (very gently!) this morning. Huge congratulations to Julie CARTER, Tony COLCLOUGH, Mick HUDSON and Joanne TUNLEY who all completed the most famous 26.2 miler last weekend. I joined them for a photo (with my medal of course!)

#wyreforestparkrun29042017

I'm pretty certain that in all this excitement I forgot to give a shoutout to Jackie HOWARTH who was running her 50th parkrun so I apologise profusely Jackie! Well done to you and to junior Nikolai JUDGE who ran his 10th parkrun this week.

We have a new record holder too. Ellie BATES stormed round the course in 20:35 to se a new Age Category Record for SW25-29. Great running Ellie.

I want to finish my run report by passing on some lovely feedback from tourist parkrunner Lee BERESFORD. Lee visited us from the parkrun 'mecca' that is Bushey Park. He was very enthusiastic about our wonderful volunteers, particularly Gayle BARRY and her family at marshal point 8 with their very own 'motivation station'! He thanked the team for a great parkrun and lots of encouragement. And I think we've decided that the cowbells need to stay so we will be getting more of those!! I know lots of you wanted to thank Gayle and her family for the entertainment (dancing marshals??!) so once again - THANK YOU!

No pressure everyone else but if you could put on a little show as you marshal I'm sure it would be appreciated too! ;-)

OK so that's it from me - what a fab week.

See you all next week when I think we have some more regular runners completing their 50th parkruns - watch this space!

Happy running
Andie
